Embracing a New Year in August

As we step into August, I often find myself feeling like this is the true beginning of a new year. Maybe it’s because I spent so many years in school, well into my mid-twenties, and then experienced the school cycles again with my children and still do!  For me, fall has always signaled a rebirth, a fresh start. Does anyone else feel this way?

Living in South Florida, fall holds a different meaning compared to my childhood in New England. There, the season was marked by the vibrant changing of leaves and the onset of crisp, cold mornings and nights. Here, fall doesn’t bring such dramatic changes, but it still feels like a new chapter.

As I reflect on the past year and set my goals for the future, I can’t help but look back on this summer with immense gratitude. I truly lived this summer, experiencing so much joy and adventure. Tubing with friends, water skiing for the first time in 25 years, flying in a private small plane exploring South Naples and Marco Island, boating, fishing, and spending quality time with family. Bridal showers, weddings, great food, and endless sunshine all contributed to a season filled with wonderful memories. For the first time in a long while, I feel like I’ve embraced life as we should. Moving forward, I want to ensure that I continue to make time for the things that bring me happiness.

What do you do to make sure you are doing the things that bring you joy and happiness?

Here’s to living fully and cherishing every moment. — Elaine Morgan
